Last week we reported that Xiaomi was planning to release either a Smartwatch or the Mi 5. The latest leaks now point to Xiaomi working on a Low-end budget phone. This phone is supposed to be a cheaper alternative to the Redmi 2, which in itself provides great value. Xiaomi is expected to swap the qualcomm chip inside the Redmi 2 with a Leadcore SOC.
Leadcore SOCs are not as famous as MediaTek or Qualcomm but, who knows? They might be able to compete in the near future. It makes sense that Xiaomi has opted for Leadcore since 51% shares of Leadcore Technology are held by Xiaomi. The yet-to-be-named smartphone (we have no idea of Xiaomi’s nomenclature as of now) is said to cost around $80 (or RM 296). The device is also expected to be launched on the 18thof April.
Specs of the Alleged $80 Xiaomi phone includes:
- 4.7-inch 720p Display
- 1.6Ghz Lead Core (LCI LC1860C) CPU 28nm Quad Core Cortex – A7
- Mali T628 GPU to handle the graphics.
- 1GB RAM and 8GB ROM, microSD slot is included
- 4G LTE supported.
- 13-megapixel Rear Camera and 2-megapixel front camera
- Android 4.4.4 ( Kitkat ) pre-installed
The specs here are eerily reminiscent of the Xiaomi Redmi 2 except for the chipset being replaced by Leadcore. With the price of about $80 (RM 296), there’s no doubt that Xiaomi will win the hearts of those who can’t afford overpriced phones or people who just want a basic smartphone at an affordable price if they are able to deliver a decent experience.
